Cross-country ski enthusiasts have the opportunity to escape the hustle and bustle of the city and rise above the fog while still being within sight of the bustling economic center of Zug, Switzerland. Traveling through snow-covered high mountain bogs, you'll feel like you're in Scandinavia, with stunning views of the Rigi and the foothills of the Alps in front of you.
By taking the cable car up to 925 meters above sea level, you can leave the fog behind. Just beyond the mountain station is Vordergeisboden, the starting point of the route, where you'll find everything you need to prepare for your journey. After passing two "Tankfallen", remnants of World War II precautions, you will reach Scheftboden. Here you will find a night cross-country ski run, available every day. From Scheftboden, the most challenging section of the Zugerberg Trail awaits you: the climb from Hintergeisboden to Ewegstafel.
As you glide along the trail, you'll be surrounded by scenic terrain with views of Rigi, Uri Rothstock and other pre-alpine peaks in the distance. Reaching Früebüel, formerly a military prison camp until 1988 and now an agricultural research station run by the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (ETH), you will enjoy another spectacular panoramic view. Continuing upwards, you will come to the Buschenchappeli Chapel, where you can enjoy the scenery before heading to the Pfaffenboden mountain restaurant, the highest point on the trail.
After a short loop, the trail descends past Buschenchappeli, offering a spectacular descent back to Frühbühel. After gaining strength, you'll wind your way along the most scenic section of the trail. You'll pass Neuweidschuhr, where a last glimpse of the scenery precedes the vertiginous descent to the Hintergeisboden restaurant. After a few minutes you will return to your starting point in Vordergeisboden, completing your unforgettable journey.
Departing for the Zug ski run in Switzerland promises not only a physical adventure, but also a journey through stunning natural mesas and historical sites. As you glide through snow-covered marshes and take in panoramic views, each turn of the piste reveals the rich history and breathtaking beauty of the region. Whether you're an experienced skier or a beginner, the trail's varied terrain and scenic vistas guarantee an unforgettable experience for all who venture onto its snowy expanse. So put on your skis, breathe in the crisp mountain air and let the Zugerberg trail be your guide to an exciting and fulfilling winter adventure.
